Our Burial Services
Perhaps you are weighing up whether a burial in Southport would suit the person you have lost. Few decisions carry more feeling.
For many families, a burial feels like a fitting way to honour a life. There is the traditional ceremony, a chance to gather, reflect and remember, and afterwards a lasting place to return to.
We know how hard it is to reach a crossroads like this while you are grieving, and we want to help you carry that weight.
So our team is on hand with gentle advice and support for every part of a burial service. Nobody should face this alone. Below, we set out the choices open to you, so you can plan a burial service that suits the one you love.

Which Burial Services Can You Choose in Southport?
Of all the ways to say goodbye, burial is probably the most traditional. The person who has died is laid to rest, usually in a churchyard, a cemetery or a dedicated burial ground.
Plenty of families still choose it today, for many reasons: religious belief, cultural expectation, a preference for tradition, or a sense that it is the most honourable tribute.
The local burial services we arrange include:
- A formal, traditional funeral service followed by burial
- A quieter, private burial with only close family and friends
- Burial either with a church ceremony or without one
- A graveside service held at the burial ground
- Planning a burial ahead of time, if you would like to arrange things in advance
No two families want quite the same thing, and that is fine. We will explain each option plainly, so you can choose carefully when you feel ready.
Would you like to compare other kinds of funeral? Our Individual Funeral Types page explains the alternatives.

What Happens During Burial Services?
Each burial service is unique, yet most share a familiar pattern, and we are happy to explain it.
The main stages of a burial service are:
Choose a burial location: To begin, you decide on a churchyard or cemetery, either in Southport itself or somewhere nearby. If your family does not yet have a grave, we will help you track down a plot that is available.
Find a coffin: Every burial needs a coffin, and we can show you a selection to suit your budget, your faith, your ethical views and your personal taste. You can pick from traditional designs as well as coffins made from eco-friendly materials.
Planning the service: Would you like the service held in church, or beside the grave? You might also ask friends and relatives to give readings, play the music your loved one enjoyed most, or include a personal tribute that captures their life.
The committal: This is the point in the service when the person you love is laid to rest. It can be a deeply emotional moment, so we treat every detail with great care.
Support after the burial: Our help carries on afterwards, whether that means guiding you through paperwork, arranging a memorial, or simply listening when things feel hard.
By taking the practical tasks off your hands, we leave you free to concentrate on what really counts: remembering and celebrating the person you love.

Can You Personalise a Burial?
Yes. Lots of families add personal touches that reflect the person's character, which can make the goodbye especially beautiful.
Whether you prefer something traditional or something more individual, the burial can be arranged exactly as you want. We believe each life deserves to be remembered in a way that is true to the person who lived it.
So what kinds of touches do families choose?
- Music their loved one always enjoyed
- A cherished poem or a favourite passage read aloud
- Floral and forestry arrangements
- Memories shared by those who knew them
- Eulogies
As we plan the burial together, we pause at every stage to make sure we understand what you want. The aim is a farewell that is meaningful, personal and a true reflection of who they were.
Thinking about making plans ahead of time? We offer Funeral planning in Southport, so you can set out your own wishes now and spare your family the strain of arranging everything later.

I cannot recommend Hope Funeral care enough. From our first conversation both Claire and Wendy were clearly the right choice. Their empathy and genuine care for our feelings was clear. Hope have an holistic approach to caring for your loved ones, the small touches that make you sure that what is one of the hardest things anyone can go through is treated with respect, compassion and dignity. I know my husband was taken care of and given a personal loving service which made saying goodbye bearable. I would not hesitate recommending Hope Funeral Care to anyone Thank you Claire, Wendy and the team .

Hope Funeral Care does not feel like a business more a vocation … a compassionate mission. My world turned upside down when my husband died unexpectedly while we were on holiday in Sri Lanka. I was alone on the other side of the world trying to make repatriation and funeral arrangements. I was in shock , grieving and overwhelmed. In stepped Hope Funeral Care. I spoke to Claire on the phone and it felt like she was giving me a massive hug. She was kind, empathetic, but strong and practical, and she took a huge burden off my shoulders. She metaphorically took me by the hand and guided me. I honestly could not have survived those first weeks without her. She was thoughtful about every small detail and just a few weeks later we had an amazing celebration of my husbands life. Hope Funeral Care has a different approach - their funeral parlour is a welcoming home, full of thoughtful touches, not a dark oppressive office. And their care doesn’t end with the funeral. They organise regular meet ups for people who are grieving and may benefit from talking to other people in the same situation. I could not recommend this company enough.

The loss of my husband was too much to take and the care, support and guidance I received was unbelievable. The ladies at Hope funeral care went above all what I expected when I was on the phone in the night I was reassured. Only few times in your life will you need a funeral company. Wendy singing was a highlight and made the crematorium bright a tribute to Sam and his love of music. On the day my family were cared for and even to this day they check in with me. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Jen xx

Knowing I had to start enquiring about funeral arrangements sent me into total overwhelm. However, from the very first call to Wendy at Hope Funeral Care, I felt a massive weight lift off my shoulders. I didn’t want a stuffy, traditional scary experience for both me and my young children, I wanted to know my husband would be cared to entirely on site, and that I didn’t want anything that resembled a coffin! Speaking to Wendy, explaining my worries…it just felt right. I knew nothing was too much for them—they showed genuine compassion, honesty, and sincerity, guiding me in decisions that reflected what mattered most. Their thoughtful personal touches and follow-up brought immense comfort. I felt truly held during the darkest, most frightening time of my life, and their ongoing support has meant so much. Wendy and Clare especially went above and beyond to ensure every detail was perfect. Everyone who attended the celebration of life said it was the most uplifting service they had ever experienced, exactly what we hoped for my three young children. The premises are beautiful, calm, warm and inviting, each time I entered the building it felt like a big warm hug and left feeling lighter. Wendy and Clare aimed to give hope—and that is exactly what they achieved. Words cannot express what their genuine support means to me. Both you and your loved one, could not be better supported or cared for anywhere else than Hope Funeral Care.

Claire, Wendy, Katie and Cate are the only people I would turn to in the unfortuanate event of another death in my family. A family member of mine died in very unexpected circumstances and I did not have a clue what I was supposed to do. After receiving a recommendation of their service, I gave them a call. From the moment I spoke to Wendy, I knew that I was speaking with the right people and I was instantly at ease when discussing my situation. From that first call I was guided in a very personable manor through every step. I chose a service at their premises and it has been one of the best decisions I've ever made. The building is beautiful and Claire and her team made everything perfect. I am, and will always be grateful to them for the service I received from Hope Funeral Care and I thank them all for everything they did. Marc Paul.
